Balfour Beatty Honored with 2023 DBIA Award for Town of Mooresville Police Department Headquarters
May 1, 2023
Balfour Beatty is honored with a Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Southeast award for its work on the Town of Mooresville Police Department Headquarters. The award, officially given at the DBIA Southeast Awards Banquet on April 18 in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, recognizes the project as an exemplary application of “Design-Build Done Right.”
The Town of Mooresville Police Department Headquarters was a design-build project led by Balfour Beatty in partnership with Little Diversified Architectural Consultants (Little) and completed in September 2022. Consideration for a DBIA Southeast award requires that, at a minimum, a project achieves the best-value result for the client, on-schedule and with no litigation.
The Balfour Beatty team exceeded the DBIA award requirements as the project was completed three days ahead of schedule with no change orders, remained in budget and achieved an impressive safety record of 67,000 work hours with zero lost-time accidents, recordable accidents or restricted day cases.
As an exemplary use of the design-build delivery method, the project team prioritized open and collaborative discussions with The Town of Mooresville and trade partners as early as possible. Weekly stakeholder meetings, consistent updates to the schedule and commitment to the client’s vision drove planning excellence and enabled the project team to accommodate design changes without delays or change orders.
The team also leveraged the advantages of Autodesk BIM 360 Field to maintain accurate, cloud-based project documentation, further enabling collaboration between all trade partners and accountability to the client’s schedule and budget.
“The DBIA Southeast Award is a true testament to the way Balfour Beatty approaches every design-build project as an expert construction leader in our communities,” says David Stanton, vice president of operations in North Carolina. “Our team led by Project Manager Aislinn Nagy and our industry partners including Little Diversified collaborated effectively and efficiently to deliver a truly first-class facility.”
The Town of Mooresville’s new Police Department Headquarters is a state-of-the-art law enforcement facility, focused on creating a safe, secure and inviting environment. The Town of Mooresville envisioned a headquarters that projected the strength of its police department alongside a welcoming softness, down to a comfortably furnished interview space aimed at protecting victims’ mental health. Balfour Beatty and designer, Little Diversified are proud to bring our client’s vision to life that provides a space that will serve the community for many years.
