Balfour Beatty and Town of Clayton Celebrate the Grand Opening of Municipal Park
July 19, 2022
CLAYTON, NC – Balfour Beatty and the Town of Clayton celebrate the grand opening of the revitalized Municipal Park in Clayton, North Carolina. The ceremonial ribbon cutting took place on July 18 when citizens and local leaders gathered to commemorate the completion of the park’s renovations and its official reopening in the community.
The $6.5 million revitalization of Municipal Park is part of an $18 million bond passed in 2019 that funds multiple improvement projects for the Town of Clayton’s Parks and Recreation department. Municipal Park is the first and oldest park in the community and most of the park’s features date to the early 1980s.
To revitalize the park, Balfour Beatty’s design-build team, in partnership with The John R. McAdams Company and Ratio Architects, delivered new features including a splash pad, new playground, basketball courts, picnic shelters, restrooms, and upgraded parking. The park also includes a new community stage with a large, open green space for private events.
“We’d like to thank the Balfour Beatty team and partners for exceeding our expectations,” said Scott Barnard with the Town of Clayton. “The project team took our community’s ideas and made them a reality. The reimagined Municipal Park will be the place for many memories for generations to come.”
“I want to congratulate the Balfour Beatty project team and design partners on the successful delivery of the revitalized Municipal Park in Clayton,” said Scott Garner, project executive in North Carolina. “It’s an honor to build another vital improvement project with the Town of Clayton and provide a renewed outdoor space for its Parks and Recreation department. We look forward to seeing the community enjoy the park’s beauty and new amenities for many years.”
The completion of Municipal Park’s renovations follows Balfour Beatty’s successful delivery of the new Harmony Playground in October 2020. Located at the East Clayton Community Park, the project included the construction of a playground that is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and inclusive of children with all abilities and their guardians to play safely together.
