Balfour Beatty Celebrates 20 Consecutive Years of National Safety Recognition
Balfour Beatty’s Rail operations team is proud to mark a significant industry milestone: 20 consecutive years of recognition from the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) Safe Contractor of the Year awards program. This year also represents the team’s 12th Platinum Award, the program’s highest honor reserved for organizations that achieve a perfect score of 100 in the NRC’s stringent safety evaluation process.
The Platinum Award reflects excellence across all facets of safety performance, including safety practices, workers’ compensation metrics, OSHA reporting and training programs. Balfour Beatty’s Rail teammates continue to demonstrate exemplary performance in each area, upholding the company’s longstanding commitment to Zero Harm and reinforcing its position as a national leader in rail construction and maintenance.
“Receiving the Platinum Award again reflects our teams’ unwavering commitment to Zero Harm. Everyone — whether working in the field, in the rail office, in the warehouse, craft or staff — played a personal role in this recognition,” said Robert Hume, Rail & West EH&S Manager. “It was an absolute privilege to attend the NRC awards program alongside my colleagues to accept this award on behalf of our outstanding teammates. Their daily dedication, professionalism and continued focus on safety make achievements like this possible.”
This two‑decade milestone underscores the experience, personal accountability and shared responsibility embedded in every part of Balfour Beatty’s Rail operations. From planning and coordination to field execution and support, the achievement reflects a culture where safety is not simply a standard, but a lived practice that drives performance every day.
