Balfour Beatty Selected to Build New Jacumba Fire Station
March 5, 2025
SAN DIEGO, C.A. – Balfour Beatty has been selected by the County of San Diego to construct the new $12.5 million Jacumba Fire Station No. 43, further expanding the company's public sector portfolio and strengthening its longstanding partnership with the County. The project will enhance emergency response capabilities and provide critical infrastructure to serve the Jacumba community.
The new one-story fire station will feature two double-deep apparatus bays and comprehensive facilities including a lobby, office space, six dormitory rooms, restrooms, kitchen, dining room, day room, and gym. Demonstrating the County's commitment to sustainability, the facility will incorporate a solar photovoltaic system with battery storage to achieve Zero Net Energy goals and is being designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
The project's scope encompasses extensive site improvements including parking facilities, a septic system, water wells, four 10,000-gallon water tanks, stormwater collection systems, a hose rack, emergency generator, and security fencing. The station will also be equipped with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, station alerting systems, phone/data capabilities, and equipment storage.
"We are honored to partner with the County of San Diego on this vital community project that will serve the residents of Jacumba for generations to come," said Dan Ferguson, director of justice and civic operations for Balfour Beatty in California. "This strategic win not only expands our public sector expertise into fire station construction but also builds upon our strong partnership with the County. We look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art, sustainable facility that will support the brave men and women who protect this community."
The selection for the Jacumba Fire Station project continues Balfour Beatty's successful partnership with the County of San Diego. The company is currently constructing the East County Stabilization Unit in El Cajon and recently completed the Youth Transition Campus Phase 2 in Kearny Mesa, demonstrating its commitment to delivering essential civic facilities throughout San Diego.
