Balfour Beatty Lean Leaders Set to Take Center Stage at LCI Congress
From coast-to-coast, our teammates are gearing up for the 26th Annual Lean Construction Institute (LCI) Congress, held from October 22-25 in San Diego, California. Balfour Beatty is a longstanding supporter of LCI and is building on that legacy as a first-tier sponsor of the 2024 Congress.
Through our participation in high-profile volunteer roles, panel presentations and more, Balfour Beatty’s lean leadership will be on full display at the event which is themed, “Surfing the Wave of Lean Design and Construction.”
Sr. Director of Technology & Operations Improvement Daniel Shirkey is serving as the 2024 LCI Congress Chair, helping lead its planning, programming and event logistics. Daniel will be joined at Congress by Balfour Beatty lean champions from across the business.
Following a competitive abstract process, our teammates were selected for four presentations, two of which promote Balfour Beatty’s proprietary SmartStart® process for developing high-performance teams and custom project strategies.
“State of Lean in the Industry”
VP and LCI Board Member Bevan Mace shares insights on the 2024 LCI Lean Adoption Survey, which assesses the levels of lean promotion and adoption and industry efficiency across a variety of demographics including company size, market sectors and more. Bevan will benchmark the 2024 data against the same subset from 2022, sharing a bold challenge for Congress attendees to cascade their knowledge and influence and inspire others in pursuit of lean.
“How to Solve a Problem with an A3 and Root Cause Analysis”
Senior Superintendent Justin Uyar joins CEO of Integration Point LLC Kevin Labrecque to discuss how tools such as systems thinking, A3s and root cause analysis can empower project teams to become better problem solvers. Justin will provide a valuable field perspective on how teams can better understand the “whole” picture of a project.
“Charting a True Course at Sacramento International Airport”
VP – Sacramento Kyle Frandsen, Senior Project Manager Anvesh Motadoo and VP Business Acquisition/National Accounts Executive Justin Maletic join client representatives to share our successful startup program that included a SmartStart® on the Sacramento International Airport Pedestrian Walkway project. The presentation will also highlight our journey scaling SmartStart® across the organization.
"Project Startup with Purpose and Intention”
Justin Maletic joins Diane Anglin, senior advisor/partner with Carta Advisors, LLC, to discuss the criticality of intentional team alignment from day one.
“Congress is one of our best opportunities to share the value we add by bringing lean solutions to the table on day one,” says Daniel. “I look forward to seeing the collective industry come together at Congress to exchange ideas, learn and grow as lean practitioners.”
Additionally, our teammates are serving in vital LCI volunteer roles: Design Managers Steven Schrader and Franco Zavaglia - LCI Content and Outreach Committee
Along our lean journey, Balfour Beatty is proud to advance a paradigm shift in the built environment through the never-ending pursuit of continuous improvement.
